Situated on beautiful banks of mighty Hoogly River, 15 Kms to the South West of Kolkata is Budge Budge, a historically important small town. Except for the river banks with few industries, the whole area internally is predominantly agricultural & poor. The spirit of 'Service Above Self' & the shine of the Rotary wheel touched the soils of Budge BUdge when sponsored by Rotary Club of Calcutta South West, Rotary Club of Budge Budge was born in the year 1965. It was then Rotary International District 325 & the then District Governor was Rtn C R Bose. Past President of Rotary Calcutta South West, Rotarian Mihir Roy was the Governor's special representative who enrolled 27 leading Businessman & Professionals as Charter Members. The first meeting was held at Bata Officers Club, Batanagar on 10th Feb, 1965 with Rotarian Fustic Lipnar as President & Rotarian Aryan Bakshi as Secretary. Although all throughout its membership hovered around 25-30, Rotary Club of Budge Budge also resembled itself as a Vibrantly Active Club touching numerous lives through its number of permanent sustainable projects along with regular projects. Rotary Budge Budge Eye Hospital, Rotary Annelie Dental Clinic & Rotray Priti Vocational Training Institute are among the mention able Permanent Projects of the Club. A long lasting continuing enriched relationship of Rotary Club of Budge Budge, India & Rotary Club of Moonster st Mauritz, Germany started with Dr Peter Baghaus of Rotary Club of Moonster St Mauritz Germany & Mr Phani Pathak of Rotary Club of Budge Budge initiating the beginning is another foot print that RC Budge Budge has carried out till date enabling in a successful materialization of 3 Global Grant Projects, namely 'Subsidized Dialysis to the Poor Patients', 'Project Vision covering 2200 Free IOL Operation for Poor' & 'Project Girls to Girls Nistha' helping in Women Empowerment with the esteemed support of the mentioned German Partner. at present under the leadership of President Rtn Nilanjan Sen, RC Budge Budge is doing lots of regular Projects along with participation in the District Events as well.
